‘User first’

Workshop with Steve Hoffman.

Before the day of the workshop we were asked to bring in another object relating to the word ‘mundane’. This time I had bought in a fork. Our first task of the day with Steve was to display our object onto a plinth. We had to think about how and why to display the object, and how we would be able to tell the story behind it. I had chosen a lightbox plinth, the reason I wanted this was because we all know that mundane objects are common, ordinary and unimaginative. So I wanted the mundane fork to be seen in a different ‘light’.

In the afternoon we were put into allocated groups of roughly 5-6 people, we had to then swop objects or processes and work with the new objects as opposed to our existing object, however we were able to link the object or process to our objects. I wanted to continue with looking at ‘repetition’ and ‘tedious’ as my keywords, so I chose to incorporate Monia’s toilet rolls as a new object to look at.
